Puccini’s opera Tosca will be performed at the Liceu this 2014. You can enjoy this play from 8 to March 25 thanks to staging of Paco Azorin.
Tosca is based on the drama of the same name who wrote Victorien Sardou in 1887. Tosca actors portraying characters that move in a tense political environment that affects the plot and the fatal ending. The facts correspond with the Napoleonic invasions in Rome 1800. The Republic had been proclaimed after the abolition of papal power, but only a year after the Neapolitan army of Ferdinand IV of Bourbon expelled the French. In the play, the pursuit of the head of the new Roman guard against ex-consul Angelotti will disgrace the protagonists: the painter Mario Cavaradossi and his lover, the singer Floria Tosca.
The assembly now takes the stage is a co-production between the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, Teatro de la Maestranza in Seville and the Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires. The musical direction is by Paolo Carignani and scenic, Paco Azorin, who has devised a very symbolic scene corresponding to three different centuries (the plot, the creation of opera and public) and three levels reading, one for each act.
