Barcelona has several beaches, but both city residents and tourists who visit us often to bathe want to go further, to the south, especially along the beaches. Looks like we have in mind that remote city beaches are cleaner and better and although does not have to be true, we can understand that people feel like you go to the beaches south of Barcelona for the day. Let’s see some!
The great advantage of the beaches south of Barcelona is that they are -most- easily accessible by train. So if you came to Barcelona without a car, do not worry.
The beaches south of Barcelona are more spacious and have shallow water, so if you are someone who likes to walk in the sea without cover you will enjoy!
The first beach south of Barcelona is Castelldefels. It is having a 5-kilometer long beach. Is located 15 minutes by train from the city. Stop in Platja de Castelldefels station.
Castelldefels beach is usually quite crowded in summer, but has everything. There are bars and restaurants.
Sitges is a lovely place. Not only for its beach south of Barcelona, also the city itself. Besides being a place of great environment for gays, Sitges is a great for all kinds of leisure activities, from walking along the seafront to eat at one of their many restaurants to have a delicious mojito or enjoy the city nightlife 😉
You can get to Sitges by train (35 minutes approximately). It is a town that retains the charm of the fishing villages but combines it with modern shops, clubs and restaurants. In summer it is a very touristy place, which contrasts with the tranquility that can be enjoyed in winter.
Vilanova i la Geltrú
A little further we find Vilanova, a town big enough to coastline that can also be reached by train in less than an hour.
It has many beaches, all of them very long and sandy. Around the beaches of Vilanova there are many services and bars. There is also an area with restaurants nearby.
